Had some free time yesterday and this afternoon and thought I'd hit the river for a couple hours. I hit up the power line at low tide Saturday and there was no action. Spent a good 2 hours throwing everything I had and ended up running out of eggs.
Today I ventured out on the second low tide and was out there about an hour before.
I hit up the hole at first with some top water lures - taken I saw some boots and others rolling and fully jumping out of the air. Figured if they are up top might as well try it. Fished a Blue Fox gold/orange 1/4 oz spoon with a bit of sand shrimp scent and slowly cast and retrieved it. Worked the water for a good 30 minutes with nothing to show finally casting out just to mid river and almost free drifting while retrieving the last few.
With a few more rollers I opted to swap out the spoon for a jig and a float. I was surprised to see I left all my pre-tied jigs at home. Doh! So after 5 minutes of rigging up my tackle I was finally able to cast. BOOM. Bird nest. Forgot to set my brakes for the new rig. Another minute or two in getting that figured out and I was well on my way to catching nothing much at all. After about a dozen casts drifting the jig at various levels I opted to move down the river a bit to some other fish holding. I casted out and presented to where I thought they would be out and hit nothing but silence. After another dozen or so casts I figured I call it a day.
Might move further up river the next trip out as I'm striking out hard on the lower sections. Although I have yet to catch any fish on the system I feel I'm learning more and more through practice and through the great members sharing their techniques and experiences here. I will be getting some more eggs and trying to float and drift those to get some strikes on my next trip as I feel that was getting the most attention from these fish. Getting nothing but bottom taps and snags my past few trips so hopefully I can get some coho before the next run comes in.
Good luck all!
