Not secret, but alpine and not on the regular list for Whatcom county. Easy/fair hike to church lake. .7 miles and about 450ft elevation gain. great hike in lake with tons of shore access (85% of shoreline fishable). saw tons of small cutts, but tried everything and could not get one to bite. tried flyin with a mosquito, gnat, and bugger pattern....nada. threw rap's, kastmasters, and spinners,...nada. fish are there, i saw them. just very picky i guess.

trail was mostly snow free, lake was full of ice. nice calm sunny day. I'm no expert on hatches, but it seemed like the trout were very peculiar about what they were doing. they would be feeding on the surface for 1/2 hour all over...then all of a sudden stop for 1/2 hour. I'm guessing they were keying on a hatch, but like i said, I'm pretty green on that stuff. the only insects i saw were mosquito's (which were thick) and a lot of these guys....

next time I'll get one......
