Just a little report from a small lake that can't stand too much fishing pressure.

Put in about 12:30 - 4:00. Water temp was 52-55 degrees. No luck catching my first bass of the year. Probably because I brought my camera and finally bought a scale. lol. Just threw some creature baits and jig and trailer. Wind really picked up about an hour after I got there, so basically I paddled around the shallows finding structure and cover for future trips.

One really cool thing, I saw an otter. That was a first. Got to watch him for about 10 minutes before he saw me. He swam up about 50 ft away and "stood up" as high as he could in the water to try to figure out what I was. That was worth the price of admission right there. I can catch fish almost anytime, but felt lucky to see him.

Think I'll wait another few weeks before getting the tube out on the water again. Still too cold, and was a popsicle after about an hour.

Hookocrook, I respect you for keeping those smaller lakes and lakes that can't standup to the fishing pressure under your hat.
I've seen fisheries wiped out by fishing pressure. I've got a few of my own that I don't even discuss with friends and they have
remained good fisheries for a long long time, even at the boat launches at most lakes I remain pretty vague in what really went
on during my day of fishing. Have a good season!!

Thanks for saying so spindog. I tend to fish pretty small acreage lakes, some of them around pretty populated areas. Even though they're public, I don't mind keeping them "secret" just for the reasons you stated. I'd share with a few of the guys on here that I know, but just to throw the info generally out to the masses doesn't work for me. Have a good season too!

Over my years of fishing having an Otter in the area while fishing is bad news. Not that we all enjoy watching the antics of an otter but while fishing around the general area the Otter seems to spook all the fish in the general area. My experience is best to move to another area away from the Otter.
