Arrived at Long after a dead 2 hrs at Hicks. We had our rods set up with jigs, spnners, floating minnows, and plastics. Saw a few bass anglers north of the launch so we decided to head to the south end of the lake. Began fishing just past the narrows. In short order I caught a small bass (eating size) on a worm. Then another. Then Bob Johansen hooked into a fish that felt very solid - unfortunately it came off too soon. Hit some more small ones and decided that we should go to the opposite shore as I was having some trouble with my backhand and flipping a jig. It was a good choice. In little time Bob hooked into a 2 lb or so bass. The morning was looking good. We caught a few more small guys but felt much better about things - we were catching fish. I tossed a Cabellas generic perch colored 4" floating minnow between two docks - not the spot I wanted. I started retrieving and BAMM! a solid fish hit and it was fish on! This guy was a brute. He surface just like jaws - mouth wide open and tail walking along. I worked him to the boat and grabbed his lower jaw (no net). Into the boat he came. My largest bass to date - 4.5 lbs, 21 3/4" long! A beauty of a largemouth bass. We took pictures, admired him and thanked the day and our switching lakes! The fish was released for another lucky angler (but I know where he lives). Not long after Bob hit another solid fish, this one was 3.4 and 19". We worked a few more spots but the sun was at a noon-time high and the skiers were making trouble. A good time to call it a day - what a day - this bass fishing is kinda addictive...
