Went to Lake Roosevelt for the weekend fishing for Trout. We were trolling with leaded line and wedding rings of different colors. The trout fishing was not that great at all, we landed only 6 trout for the 3 days that we were there. All of the trout that we caught were over 16 inches though, with one at 4 1/2 lbs. After talking to a couple of other boats on the water, we decided to switch to Walleye, because it seemed to be what everyone was catching. It was my first time fishing for Walleye, so it was quit the experience.

We were bouncing 5 ounces of weight off the bottom at a slow troll, using wedding rings of various colors, wally pops and worm trailers. We ended up catching 8 Walleyes, only 4 of which were legal size (14"). Being my first time at Walleyes, it was quit difficult to decipher between the bounces off the bottom and actual bites from the fish, but overall, a fun weekend and beautiful weather.

I will definitely be back, oh yeah, almost forgot, Roosevelt is a big lake, we were on the Arm of the San Poil and around the Keller Marina most of the weekend. I will add the photos later, we have some pics of the trout, but didn't snap any of the Walleye.

There is no minimum size limit on Walleyes in Lake Roosevelt. So the 14 inch eyes were legal. Hey but you did better than me up stream. I was down at Sterling Point and I couldnt even get bait to Walleyes before Smallmouth ate it up.

We were on the Colville Indian Reservation, which does indicate a 14" minimum size for the Walleyes, your right the rest of the lake does not have that minimum, only on the reservation.

My bad. I guess that is why it pays to read the regs. Thanks for the heads up.

No problem, fortunately, my friends that I was with new that we needed a tribal permit and we picked up the tribal regs at the same time. Just be careful in the Arm of the San Poil, or in the Keller Ferry vacinity.

Of course I don't know if you have noticed this but in the 7 years I have lived in this state and fished for Walleyes, I have yet to have a game warden of any sort ask me about my walleyes. It seems in this state if you don't fish for salmon or trout they could really care less. I don't keep under sized fish or more than my share, but it just seems the state really don't care about those fish. Guess they dont make enough money on them.

HAHAHA, you know I never thought about that, that would also go for Bass (Always realeased anyway), and most other spiny rays. That is a very good point, I have only ever been questioned on my Salmon, shellfish and Trout...................................interesting.
