Fished the Spring Thaw Derby with my partner, the same granddaughter who was with me when I made my last report during the last of August 2004. Shows what a procrastinator I must be. figured on several trips yet last year, but spent most of time on Coeur d'Alene blue backing last fall. Back to Roosevelt, we had a wonderful day on the lake and caught three nice rainbows all just short of three pounds apiece. In fact she took second place in youth division. Needless to say at the shotgun start we lit out for the places we had never been skunked before, namely Keller. we put in a large amount of our time in the mouth of the San Poil. trolling a orange apex and a purple and violet spinner fly said to be good for Kokes but proved more useful enticing her prize winner trout. The apex also accounted for one walleye about 17 inches long why a self respecting walleye hit it is beyond me, maybe it was because it was the only time I remembered to spray the darn thing before letting it out. We run these about 150 ft. back of the boat, 60ft. leader and leaded line.
Where are all the reports on this fine lake? I came looking twice today expecting that close to 200 boats on the water Sunday would put in some reports. 1st look came up blank, 2nd not only was blank but said no page can be found at this address. Being not computer savvy it took a while but found this new jazzed up version of washingtonlakes. I really like the blues and whites of state county map, thanks to the powers that be who try to provide us with this tool. Now if I can talk someone into sharing his or her secrets to the kokanee I'll be happier than a fresh scrubbed hog in an old waller. Think I would sort of like to specialize in those kokanee but so far have not catched nary a one in this lake. Its a wonderful lake to me even with the water so far down you might consider putting an overdrive in your reverse gear for those long ramps. speaking of which seems like a enterprizing young person with a passenger hauling four wheeler could make a buck or two hauling overwieght senior citizens like me back up to my rig and trailer. Hustling up at seven bays so I wouldn't block anyone coming behind me I thought it might be time to throw up my arms and holler; "I'm coming Martha it's the big one" only in my case it would be another name I would call, seeing as how I'm a widower and my favor-ite fishing partner has gone on ahead to scope out the fishing holes if there are any up there?
What ! you say there are no fishing up there? My first instinct is to say I don't want to go there then! but upon thinking clearly, the good book tells me the other option is definetly too hot for any water to stay in a lake, especially if its the lake of fire. I think I choose up even if it seems uphill. remember
Throw your line out one more time on the other side of the boat
