Father's Day was my first trip to the Spokane Arm of Lake Roosevelt for Walleye. Once I figured out the right drift speed the fishing was fantastic. We fished with chartreuse and orange spinners, orange beads, and an orange float on a worm harness with a 1/2 to 1 ounce bottom walker. Depth in the morning was 8 to 14 feet, dropping to 14 to 24 feet after 10:00am. This combination produced nice fish in the 12 to 15 inch range with a couple of shakers over 16". 5 fishers with 40 fish by 1:00pm. The secret is fishing with the current, controlling drift speed, and once a school of fish have been located, fish depth. Good colors are orange, chartreuse, and red fluorescent in any combination, and white, pink, and blue.
My second trip out proved just as fruitful as the first. We were on the water at 2:30pm. Fishing gravel banks at about 18ft produced a nice 4 plus pound Walleye on a orange, chartreuse, and red combination. Another hot combination was the white, pink, blue Perch blade, with white beads and a wedding ring. This combination not only produced Walleye, but a surprise Rainbow that weighed in at over 6 pounds. 3 fishers with 32 fish by dark. Day 2 started out slow, but picked up once the fish were located in 25 to 35 feet of water. 16 fish by noon with 4 shakers over 16".
The Spokane Arm of Lake Roosevelt is a very productive fishery and I recommend it to anyone that wants to catch fish.
