Hit the mouth of the Colville river again last night around 7pm. I was fishing for Burbot with smelt. The water level is dropping quickly in the last week. Got a hook up about 7:30 and much to my suprise it was a 23in rainbow! I wasn't expecting that at all. The Burbot started to bite around 9pm. I caught the last of my limit around 11pm. This is only the third time I have fished for Burbot and I am not sure what I think about it. Most of the time fishing for them is spent checking your bait every 15 mins and seeing if you have a fish. They feel like you have snagged weeds and put up almost zero fight. The biggest challenge has been not slipping in the mud when netting them. If you are looking for a place to sit by the fire and drink a cold one or two then this is your place. Nice place to just relax and catch some dinner. The fish are great to eat, second to none in my opinion.

If I wasn't so hooked on the Sturgeon bite that is probly were I would be. Today I have my nephews working around my place and they want to fish out at Hawk Creek tomorrow. I made the mistake of letting them choose were to go tomorrow.

piercer509...I have never fished burbot but I have got to try it. The only reason is the meat! I have tried it boiled and dipped in garlic butter and it was amazing. Can you give me some pointers and a good place to try it? I am not familiar with the Colville mouth. Where do you access the water? I typically fish the Spokane arm for walleye. Are the Burbot populations good in the Spokane arm? Thanks for the info and have a good one at Hawk Creek. The trout are in the creek. My buddy has been trolling flies and been picking up limits of big fat rainbows. 2-4 lbs. Have a good one.

I take the 395 north past Colville. There is a Chevron station just at the end of town. Make a left there and go about 4 miles until you pass the bridge to the Colville River. There is a turn out there where I park. Just hike down the hill and fish at the mouth of the river. I am not sure about other areas I am new at fishing for them and this is the only spot I have tried.
