Spent 3 days at Seven Bays, but not 3 days catching fish. The fishing was slow from the start, and it never really picked up. We did manage to put one nice 'bow in the cooler Saturday afternoon right after officially "christening" the boat with some California champagne and a toast to many good fishing trips to come. Immediately following a few sips of bubbly, a rain squall rolled in and I was hoping for a hookup, and wham, the fight was on! We must have appeased the fish gods. :-) Try as we might, that was our only success for the weekend.
Upon departure Sunday afternoon, a tribal member was at the Seven Bays launch doing a creel survey. I asked how well others were doing and he told me no one was catching anything, and we were the only boat that reported a catch, even though it was for the prior day.
The water level has dropped dramatically in the last 2 1/2 weeks, from 1282' on 4/6/09 to 1262' on 4/26/09 and we were surprised to see the big drop. I'm certain it had an impact on fishing success rates throughout the reservoir.
Nonetheless, we still had a great time!
