Went shad fishing for the first time ever. We traveled 3.5 hours from Seattle to see what the shad fishing was all about. The dam access road was easy to find. We picked the very first spot we could find all the way downstream where its bushy. We fished it for a couple of hours with no fish.

We decided to move upstream closer to the dam where people where fishing shoulder to shoulder. Some fish were being caught at that area. We even saw a salmon caught on a dick nite that was released. We begin to fish for several hours. I caught the only shad from a group of four people fishing. After fishing all day, I still haven't figured out how to catch them.

Overall, it was a very poor day of fishing. The current was very slow and fish were not biting. Best part of the day was seeing giant sturgeon.

Yeah the Giant Sturgeon there are cool! I have seen them just sneak up along the shoreline. The shad run seems a bit slow so far, maybe its late. Thanks for the report!
