What a way to start the New Year. The freezing weather broke, it rained and melted all the snow off the roads, and we hit the lake. Like I said on the forum, we went, we fished, and we slayed 'em - again.
Honestly, you could read any of the reports I've submitted for Roosevelt since September and get the same story, but, that wouldn't be any fun now would it. ;-)
We left Seven Bays at 11am and were at our preferred spot near Split Rock and fishing by 11:20. Leaded line with a 50' leader out 155' trolling a Frisky Jenny Perch pattern fly tipped with half a worm has been the killer combo for us since September and it worked just the same today. Trolling speed about 1.8 - 2.0mph and we had our limits in the cooler in 90 minutes. Would have been finished sooner, but we lost at least 3 at the boat. Twice we doubled up, and both times we put them in the cooler. :-)
Nice fat Rainbows running close to 18" in length and only one at 14". They are nice chunky fish, have a beautifulf orange colored flesh, and fight like the dickens.
I have gotten in the habit of cleaning our fish while on the water before putting them on ice in the cooler. I filet them out when we get home. All of these are already filleted out and soaking in a brine for a trip into the smoker tomorrow afternoon. Mmm, mmm good!
For a change, I was able to back the boat up the driveway by daylight instead of by taillight!!!
