Last day of vacation and I was determined to not waste all of it working. Took a friend fishing today, and after driving through about 50 miles of dense fog, was pleased to drive out of it as we came down to the lake.

We launched, headed to Split Rock, and had lines in the water by 8:30. My friend hooked the first one while letting his line out, but it spit the hook at the back of the boat. He followed that up with another hit less than 5 minutes later and it too spit the hook, only this time further out.

After both of us having several hits, my friend had a solid hook-up and this one was in the boat. In less than 10 minutes he had another in the boat. I was thinking I might need to change my setups because they definitely seemed to be less attractive than his wedding ring/worm combo.

We continued on, and things started to even up a bit and I put 5 fish in the boat over the nect hour and a half. We kept working the area above Split Rock because that's where we seemed to be getting the most action.

We had a couple really nice ones on today, one of which broke the trailer hook clean off my brand new Frisky Jenny "Lenny Special". Would like to have seen that one. At 11:50 my friend put his 5th fish in the cooler and we called it a day.

Early morning water conditions were mostly calm with some light wind chop and overcast skies. Wind chop increased as late morning arrived, but we also had some sun break through the clouds. Surface temp was 57.6°, and with the cloud cover, it didn't change much throughout the morning.

I was fishing two rigs (two rod permit), one a leaded line setup with 50' leader and the "Lenny Special" out 155', the other a long line mono outfit with a perch colored Rip'n Minnow out 195'. The plug was more productive today and outfished the "Lenny Special" by a couple. My friend was using a chrome bladed wedding ring on a leaded line setup and he was out 3 colors. Both the wedding ring and the Lenny Special were tipped with worm. Trolling speed was slower than normal to keep my friend's line from twisting too badly, and it was 1.2 - 1.5mph.
