Took my 12 year old grandson to Spring Canyon for a little Rainbow catching this morning. I have been reading very promising reports lately and we were not dissappointed! We fished for a short time just outside the launch with no luck, so decided to head down to the bend in the river just below Keller. We fished for a couple hours with limited success, 3 in the boat and lost one. We continued uplake to Jones bay and pulled in to use the outhouse and stretch our legs about 11:00. A few people were fishing from shore with powerbait having good results and that excited my Grandson, so we threw out a line and gave it a try, couple nibbles, but no fish. We enjoyed stopping and trying something different and had lunch. I have found changing things a little keeps the young ones interested. About 1:30 we headed back downlake and threw out the lines. We were trolling at about 2.7-3.0 mph with 4 colors out on leaded line with pink Apex and maggots on both sides and then a long mono in the middle with a dodger-muddler minnow and piece of crawler. We headed over to the reservation side above Keller and found fish. In 30 minutes we caught 7 fish lost one when we had on a triple and just couldn't tend to the poles quick enough. It seemed like nonstop catching almost as soon as you got your line out. I will be checking that spot next trip over that is for sure! If you haven't given the trout fishing at Roosevelt a try, you should. I feel like if you are not catching fish move around It has worked for me. The fish we caught ranged in size from 12"-18" (one 12" and the rest 17-18").
