wow, sounds like an amazing day of fishing! congratulations on that trophy walleye! i have never caught one, living in western washington, but i would love the chance to fish for them. and i do understand that this is probably that once in a life time fish. i would have wanted to keep it too but would have probably let it go just because i wouldn't want to fork out the cash to send it to the taxidermist lol!

Congratulations!!! I know the feeling because I have a 31" / 12.10 lbs. mounted on my wall that I caught in Porcupine Bay over there several years ago, in Feb. I still enjoy looking at it on the wall in my office everyday. Good job and there are plenty more big ones in that body of water. Enjoy!

Easy boys. Keeping that fish was well within the law. I to practice catch and release but remember the old addage, "To each his own". I learned my lesson many years ago looking at a nice big fish that I had caught, and the photo was taken in my own front yard. After looking at that photo a few times, I decided no more keeping the big ones for me. I'll let em go to make more for me and everyone else. Judge not, lest ye be judged. Nice fish Guy. Seems a little silly to send a fish 1.200 miles to have it mounted when there is a taxidermist out on e. trent that does excellent work. Hope it dosn't get lost in the mail.

Congrats on the fish. Wish people would understand that these days we don t have to kill fish to get them on the wall. Take the measurements, photo and put them back. The fish this time of year are full eggs and especially a big girl like that one has thousands of eggs. If we want good fishing for our kids and grand kids we need to put the fish back and have a replica of them built. The replicas last for ever and the old skin mounts don t, plus the replicas look just as good. I have a couple of the replicas and you cant tell the difference. Good fishing everyone

He was well within the law to have kept that fish. If the population did not support removal of a few of these, then there would be an upper size limit enforced. Besides, these are introduced fish, not a native species.

Dafishslayer- I bet he saved money shipping it back to MN and that's including shipping. When I was calling around local areas in spokane to get my pike mounted last summer I cried when I found out how much more $$$ it was to get a fish mounted out here. Its anywhere from 6-10 dollars an inch more out here then it is back in WI in my old neck of the woods anyway.. and for those of you wondering yes I did let it go because it was going to be to close to a grand to put it on the wall otherwise I would of hung it proudly on the wall like this fine sir is going to do. (I believe in releasing the pigs and keeping the eaters but I want the real thing on the wall because yes it does look better and it should be every fisherman's decision to do so without getting any crap)

Great catch, you caught Medusa! Pics like that make it so much more fun going out this time of year even if we don't catch one like that, you've given us hope! By the way I don't know if you know or care but now you can delete other peoples comments on your posts if you think they're innapropriate or unnecessary. I do it whenever someone tries to make me feel bad about my choice to catch or release a monster.

Don't get me wrong! I'm not hating on him, kudos for landing such a awesome fish. But here are a few facts about walleye that some of you might not be aware of. First of all walleye can live up to 25 years. The males don't even become mature until 3 to 4 years and the females even longer . That fish he is holding could be 20+ years old and have up to 500,000 eggs in her. Obviously no knows how many bi gs ones like that are in there, hopefully there are a lot, roosevelt is a huge body of water. So when you pull the big ones out of the lake it does have a direct impact on the population because it takes a long time for them to mature and reproduce. Also there is a size limit on them. You can only keep 2 over 22 in. I caught a 24 in. 4+lb. a couple a weeks ago and it was full of eggs, so that fish was 4 yrs old or older. There not as good to eat when they get that old anyway.So when you catch those big ones like that it can have a impact on the species whether you believe or not, and there is a reason why you can't fish the tributaries april through may so the fish can reproduce. Everyone wants to catch that trophy fish, but remember if you do and keep it, it might have a bigger impact on the species than you think. Any way congrats on that beautiful fish, it is definitely something to be proud of.

Actually the tributaries are open to fishing you just cant keep the Walleye at that time because they are spawning. Good luck fishing everyone

Well..That big ol girl (assuming it a female) will look good on the wall. Got to remember that the age classes of walleye vary. The most productive females are not the 30" females. They are the 20 -26" females. Now every body of water will have different growth rates. This fish was caught in deep water several miles from ideal spawning habitat..telling me she (assuming) is probably sick of males chasing her around and she is probably in that menopausal state. One fish is not going to kill the Lake roosevelt population. I personally know biologists who have electroshocked this lake and it is very healthy and alive. Congrats Guys. I personally eat lots of walleyes very year out of this system. I don't personaly keep anything over 24" because they don't taste as good as the smaller ones. Also I have caught many large walleyes out of deep water..and had to fiz them. One female succumbed to stress and it wouldn't swim and we had to keep her. We actually decided to mount her..with the same taxidermist Guy is going to use. It turned out great congrats Guy! Fish of a lifetime!

Nice! The selective harvest of a very small percentage of these beauties is not harmful. When my grandson caught one in the high teens, we didn't throw it back, but we've thrown back a few dozen giants over the years. It's not like the Banks Lake years in the 60's and 70's of some folks taking a dozen or more 10+ pounders in one trip. Well done.
