Decided to hit Tapps for a couple of hours today after the rain quit. I had read about these Tiger Muskie before but didn't really think there were very many in the lake and didn't really think I would even see one so I set my sights on smallies.

I caught a few smallies, nothing to big, but still lots of fun on my 4ft okuma rod. Then while fishing I heard this huge splash that sounded like someone threw something at my boat. I missed what it was but kept my eye on the spot of the rings. Then a huge Muskie came flying all the way out of the water twice! It was awesome!! I had never seen one, so this was new to me. After seeing this several times in different areas I decided to give it a shot even knowing I probably couldn't land one without a steel leader and with only 6lbs mono. I had no idea what to use but did see a ton of what looked to be 2-3 inch perch popping all over the top of the water. I'm not sure what they were but I figured my rebel popper would look similar.

I casted out into the mess of bait and popped it 2-3 times and a Muskie hammered it. That was a thrill to see. Needless to say, it swallowed up my lure and cut my line. Oh well, I just wanted to see if I could get one to bite and he sure did.

I would appreciate any info on Muskies you guys may have. Stuff like where on the lake to try and what bait to use. I may have gotten lucky with my experience. I grew up on this lake and know lots of smallie holes but don't know anything about these muskies. I sure would love to catch one and cross it off my list of fish to catch! I have also never caught one of those land locked steelhead. I have seen one that a buddy of mine caught with the prop of his boat. Craziest thing I had ever heard of. He went back and netted the injuried fish and BBQ'ed her up.

Tight Lines and Good Luck
