Went to Rufus with "The Islander" and a new friend Sam. Drive from Spokane was good with a little fog and some slick spots. Launched at Seaton Grove and motored down to the first set of pens and started trolling on the surface with rippin minnows and flys. Saw no action until I put a rippin minnow out on 4 colors of leaded line. We then adjusted the gear and put 2 rods out on down riggers with rippin minnows as well. All in all we had our limit by 2:30. All came on the minnows save 2 that were caught on a fly with a wiggle fin. Water temp 45* and OAT was 23-32*. We were fishing the ledge about 100 yards from the pens in 25-30' of water. Downriggers were at 15-20'. Caught one on the surface with a planer board and minnow.
Water was moving fairly good and all but one fish was caught trolling into the current. Missed about another 12 fish or so on all the gear. These fish don't hit like the Roosevelt trout on the troll. They hit almost like a walleye and are very timid, but they are persistant and come back to the plug. Biggest fish was shy of 8 lbs. Saw two other boats, 1 jigging and another trolling. All were catching fish today. Great day to be fishing....
