My wife and I fished from daybreak (on the water while still dark) till around 2 PM. We fished above Ringold in the 31 hole area. We were hoping to catch a Salmon or two, but no luck. I ended up catching two steelhead though. Too bad season doesn't open till Oct 1st in this part of the river. We saw a few fish caught here and there, but not a lot it seems. Quite a few fish on the sonar but maybe with the warm water temps they are hard to get biting...
Caught the steelhead with Brads super bait and Mikes secret sauce sprayed on it. Been out three days this year without a Salmon yet.
Anyone else know how to get these Chinook to bite??

We fished just below Priest rapids on Sunday. We caught 1 12# king and a silver that was about 8#. First silver for us in that part of the river.

Yeah from what I've kind of heard and noticed, the best areas to fish are White Bluffs and Vernita areas. We caught 10 kings and lost 8 this weekend using fresh cut plug herring and a green superbait. Mostly caught fish right on the bottom to 5 feet off the bottom, caught one or two in 15-20 feet on the downrigger in 30 foot of water.

Thanks for the replies. I fished the Vernita area several times last year, but didn't have any luck. I have only been salmon fishing for a few years so maybe still not doing everything "perfect". I have caught fish at Drano with good success several times in the spring this year and last year, but have yet to boat one up here in the reach. I appreciate the tip on fresh cut plug. I tried cured red and blue last weekend with no success, but maybe fresh would be better... Keep up the good work. My day will come!

Yeah my dad brings over fresh herring that we always pick up at this little store that's by Gig Harbor on the westside. I think they catch them that day and just store them in a bucket outside on ice when it's closed. Also with fishing cut plug herring, try running it without a flasher, I've noticed we got more hookups doing that, Vernita is a early bite though, most of our fish came by 9 to 9:30, then it's pretty much slow but you'll still catch a couple.
