Had a chance to fish with Mel today so we headed to our Burbot spot where we limited on Burbot in about 2 hours. Biggest one was the one in the picture at about 5 lbs. On the way back to the launch we deceided to fish for some Walleye. We fished 40ft of water and caught 4 fish in about an hour with the biggest being the other pic a nice 22 incher. Anyone wanting to get out and try their luck at Burbot let me know. Good fishing everyone..

Nice work I have been wanting to to go after burbot for a while but don't the 1st thing about how to catch them, been trying to get my buddy to commit on a day to book with ya but I might just have to leave him at home ha-ha. How are they to clean and do you get a decent amount of fillet? Nice report and will be in touch.

YJ,

Glad to have the chance to share the burbot up at buoy 5 with you. We definitely thought your marker was a crawdad trap. Hopefully the walleye bite will improve in the near future. Sure we will see you up there again.

Tom,

All you need is the same type of jig setup you would normally use for walleyes. I have had success recently with a red jig head, chartreuse shad body and half a night crawler. I don't normally use anything that is chartreuse near buoy 5 this time of year just because I know it is good burbot bait, usually chasing walleyes instead.

Nice talking to you too CCT im sure ill see you again lol. Some people skin the fish which is pretty easy to do and then fillet them. I usually just fillet like a walleye and then run the fillet under a little warm water to help remove a little slime, pretty easy to do. You dont get as much meat as you would think, their all head lol. We try not keep anything under 24" just because of that. Tom give me a call if your interested in getting up there. I keep talking about doing the same as Tom. Want to try for the burbot at least once. Our hectic schedules are the biggest challenge to scheduling a trip. Many times we don't know we're going until the last minute, so tough to plan ahead. Sure do enjoy reading your reports on this fishery though. ;-)
