We fished the Governors Cup and had a really good time, learned a lot for next time, if there is a next time. We were quite disapointed with some of the other contestents concerning the tournament aspect. We arrived in a location that we did well in the day before, we were the first boat there and began trolling spinners, then shortly after that another boat arrived who did give us a little space, but nonetheless, didn't give us enough room to troll as we were when they arrived. They wanted to jig the same location and just parked it in the same area. Then another boat arrived and to our real disapointment had parked it below us and kept us from fishing the location how we had it dialed in. I like to respect other fisherman and if someone is in a location I was planning on fishing, if I choose to fish with them (provided the location allows it) I will fish with them the same way they are, and respect them and work with them. Given this, I find it kind of funny the vetrans sit there and complain why the jackpots and money due to the lack of boats arn't the same as it used to be, and cant figure out why no one wants to fish the tournaments Well let me shed some light from the newcomer side! Why should I donate my money to a bunch of jerks that have a lack of integrity and cant respect others. This just puts a bad taste in my mouth, and I'm not really intrested in fishing the circit next year for this reason. It's big water and plenty of fish out there, there is no reason to totaly disregard and disrespect other members that paid the same kind of money to have a chance at the contest. On the other hand we did have fun fishing new water and exploring, it was par for the course, alot of small fish. we stayed in or near the 15'-25' fow range and red with chart. spinners was the color that worked for us, the smaller the gear the better, speed of 0.7 to 1.1 is what we tried to stay around in and out of the current. Water temps in the am were down around 58 up to 64 in the afternoon. Water levels were really high as well.
Good Luck!

This tends to be quite true for all tournaments whether walleye or bass, there is no reason to be rude or disrepectful just because your in a tournament and there is money at stake. You don't have any more right to fish a particular spot then anyone else. Over the years I have actually had tournament jerks tell me to move out of their hole, fat chance of that happening. I've done several bass and walleye tournaments and have no desire to spend another day with a 100 other boats full of rude people.

Its not anyones hole. If your trolling, go right by their boat. If they dont like it they can move just as well as you.

I fished it myself and didn't have any problems at all and I was fishing in an area with several boats. I actually fish them all and don't have any problems, Not saying it doesn't happen but its rare from what I have seen. If it was your first spot, it was probably there's to. They probably were catching them there also. Sorry you had a bad experience, The majority of the people fishing that circuit are some off the nicest people I have ever met.

I'm with you CCT. Been there, done that, avoiding any tournament now. And Slow also has a point. Most folks there were great, but those few... I like AFK's response: Yeah, okay... Let's go fishin'!

I wasn't trying to make the impression that I was there first and that it was my hole. Not at all! What I was impressing is that if some one is already fishing a hole that you intended to fish dont disregard them and park on it and mess up there program up. I choose to respect other people and if practical fish with them the way they are fishing. jigging and trolling are two total different ways to fish and they really dont work in conjunction in a small hole such as this one was. It wasn't practical to keep trolling when they parked just off the ledge/shelf where the fish were holding. you were in either 10' or less of water or over 60' on the other side with swift currents. Again not practical when there is a limited ledge where the fish are holding! I agree you can fish multiple boats in one location generally, but why would you block a boat that was already fishing a location before you from continuing to fish the same way they were fishing. I find that disrespectful whether the person is nice or not! Just say'n I was disappointed in the impression made by tournament fisherman, being a new tournament fisherman myself. I wouldn't want to try and win that way. Like I said in my first report there is a lot of water and fish to be had no need to mess up others and their program.

Oh I agree with you, I would not have been happy either, It just doesn't happen that often. The river has way more guys jigging than the lake turneys, there pretty much a trolling show. I have a pretty good idea who you might have run across, I have heard stories just never had it happen. If it helps, They didn't cash any checks :) . You might want to give one of the lakes a try, Banks has the most room for spreading out, Im sure it would be a better experience. And just another thought, It cant be much worse than fishing the Columbia for salmon any day of the week, turney or not. Don't let one bad experience ruin it for you.
