Took my dad fishing today. He had the first keeper a nice 17 inch walleye with beautiful dark color in the boat within the first 15 minutes. He caught 5 before I had my first bite. When this happens I call myself the guide:). The 4 other fish were two very small walleyes about 8 inches and two small mouth bass. I thought we would have limits in by noon. It was windy which made drifting good. A little fast but we managed another keeper in the next hour. We drifted the shore just to the right of Porcupine bay from the buoy to the dry creek bed just past the houses on the flat. Hoping to help a few novices who want some help on this big body of water. Fish were caught in 10-20 FOW. We headed across to work the flats across from this area with only a few bass caught once again very small. Our next stop was the drop off past the cemetery. The drop off is right near the shelter down river from the cemetery. There is a very small bay with a tree swing. At least I think it is still there. Fished only two drifts past the drop off in 16 to 35 FOW with no bites. We then headed down river for one last stop past the island on the left that had only two small bushes sticking up on the left side. We fished in front of the beautiful log home high above the river. We drifted from the home to the first point picking up 5 more keepers in the 15-17 range, once again in 10-20 FOW. Not trophy fish but they will be good eating this week. We started with heavy 3/8 ounce fireball jigs with a full crawler. They kept to the bottom well in the wind but the bass cleaned them off pretty quick. Noon the wind died down and we switched to a smaller jig 1/2 once or 1/4 ounce just tipped with 1/2 a crawler. I was using a chartreuse single speckled twister with a neon green / orange head. I then switched to a yellow grub and had about the same luck. Color today did not seem to matter. A great day on the lake with my dad. I would not have went had it not been for the post last week on Roosevelt, so thanks so much for sharing. Looking for more reports on the lake.
