Another day on the arm. Went out with my dad, who is visiting from Montana. I wanted to try and get him a bigger fish if possible and some eaters as well. The day started out ok, with four small eaters in the first hour or so. The water flattened out go a while and so did the bite. I decided to show my da more of the arm so we headed upriver. We only go a few more for the next few hours with the occasional 2 to 2.5 pounder. Lots of tiny guys though.
As evening came on we headed back to my spot from last week for a last run through. I noticed some thunder clouds and lightning starting to come in and was almost ready to quit. Hadn't got his big fish yet though, so we continued. We were using rapalas and he had an old wobbler type that had craw dad color on it. I was going 2.4 mph. Then it happened. I could hear his drag start slowly clicking. I said, Dad, you have a fish. He said, no it's a snag. Just like last week lol. So I get the bet and top him to go easy. He pulled and reeled. Over and over. Finally I see her and dip the net. Nice 7 lb 11 oz fish. Dad is smiling an happy and so am I. We slide her back into the water and reel the rods in.
We head to the launch as the rain starts drowning us. We are laughing and smiling the hole way back. We load up, having a hard time seeing the dock. A tip I wish people would follow at night is to shut your headlights off when you get to the ramp. Other people can't see to back down when your headlights are on and shining into their mirrors. I loaded up an helped another boat load and see the dock. Weird storm was full on at this point. Crazy howling wind and rain. Lightning everywhere. Spooky but beautiful. Total catch was 19, with the big Bertha weighing more than probably half of the catch.

Was going to say "nice walleye." Changed it to "Has anyone told you you have beautiful 'eyes?"

Thank you, all. It was a good day even before the bigger fish, but the smile on his face made me extremely happy. This year has been so lucky on my boat. I never thought I'd see one big walleye, let alone four. Sometimes luck is better than skill maybe?

Nice fish and quality time with your Dad - priceless. I'm jealous of those who still have their Dad to fish with, lost my Dad almost 18yrs ago. Cherish your time together while you can.

we were staying on a houseboat that night and we got hit with the storm and almost lost 2 people with the 90mph winds that the storm brought

I try to cherish every minute Hewesfisher. It's so nice to spend time with my dad. I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how hard it must have been.
Dylanbushby503, I have to say I've never felt or heard wind like that. It literally roared. I was tying my boat down to the trailer when a wind came up, pushed me into my boat, and roared across where I was and across the lake. It raised the hair on my neck and gave me goosebumps. Freaked me out a bit, honestly. So crazy that night. I'm glad everyone was ok.

I was on the houseboat with Dylanbushby503 that night. Had 4 foot + waves in the bay we were in, damaing my boat. Parks dept said 115+mph winds. Good thing you got off the lake when you did. I agree, it was very scary the way it came up like that.
