Wow what a great day to get on the water. We hit the water just at daybreak (6:30ish) and motored back to Split Rock. Last week, we did very well in the bays. This week, the bays produced very little, with a fish here and there. Decided to try the middle of the river and that turned out to be a very good choice. We only ended up with two carry overs today. One at 19" and the other a beauty at 21". Lost a nice carry over at the boat as it spit the hook with a couple of great jumps. Over the course of the day we caught and released 52 fish, keeping only 5. I cannot remember when Roosevelt produced so many fish! The size could be larger but the action could not be better.

Last week I neglected to mention what line we used. Mono with a rippin minnow produced well but was out performed by three colors of leaded line. This week, leaded line far out performed mono. With the two pole endorsement. we fished leaded out the sides and mono in the middle. I don't think the top water lures caught more than 10 fish (though, the 21"er was caught on the mono and a gold rippin minnow). Lures of choice today were a green rippin minnow in the morning, and bright orange rapala, countdown in the afternoon, both fished with 3.5 colors of lead out. Those two lures accounted for more than 90% of our fish. We trolled betweem 2.6 and 3.5 mph. Faster speeds produced more fish. Another great day on the water.

Nice looking fish!!! I fish Roosevelt mostly out of 7 bays to ft Spokane, could you please tell me where split rock is located? I was thinking down river from Lincoln am I correct and how far, thanks.

Split Rock is up river (Columbia) from Two Rivers about two miles on the right (maybe less), so about 5 miles (ish) from Lincoln. Large rock face w/ a split in it. :) Trolling in front of the cliff is about 80' deep and you can almost drag the rod tip on the rock! Just up river from the cliff is a large bay , you can't miss it.

Shh, you're telling secrets nvan! ;-) Great report and pics. The bigger fish are finally starting to show now that surface temps have dropped. There are two spots above Split Rock you have to be very wary of, the "hump" between Castle Rock (that's its real name) and the bay where Castle Rock creek empties into the lake and the rocky point on the north side of the bay where the navigation light is mounted. Those spots are gear eaters if you don't watch your depth closely. I've had a fishing buddy freak out because I trolled within 15' of the bank and it was still 80+ feet deep, safe to do when you know the bottom structure and contours.

Troc - From Seven Bays, it's about a 10 - 15 minute boat ride at 30mph. Used to fish Split Rock regularly, but have been spending more time downstream this year. :-)
