Headed down to Rosie this morning, leaving Spokane at 0:600 , picked my partner up in Reardon. Next stop breakfast in Creston, what a way to start out a fishing trip. Reached the ramp at Keller Ferry, only two rigs in the parking lot. The geese were announcing are arrival as we prepared the boat for launching , outside temp was a invigorating 19 degrees. The boat was froze to the trailer , took a couple of minutes for 50 degree lake water to deice the trailer bunks. Fired up the propane heater in the cabin and off we went towards the mouth of the Sanpoil river. Rigged up two rods with Frisky Jenny perch pattern fly's on leaded line and one rod with mono 150 feet back with a orange and gold Rapala. With in a few minutes my partner hooked up on a nice clipped carry over, the fly presented on 4 colors of line did the trick. After beating the water for another half hour, we got nothing. Reeled up and headed up river to White Stone. The bite was on with double hook up at times on the fly and the Rapala. Had a first for us today, we had a double hook up and then the center rod with the Rapala went off. While getting the first two fish into the boat, the center reel was peeling off line out to 450 feet. Grab the rod before the fish had spooled me, off in the far distance I could see the bow going airborne putting up a good fight. Working the fish towards the boat, Mr. Bald Eagle shows up and starts air assaults from above diving at the fish when he came to the surface to dance. What a sight , the eagle's talons were in attack position making passes over my fish. After a few minutes of the airshow, the bow spit the hooks out and was headed for the deep. The eagle came to rest on the waters edge, the fish won out this time. We finished up fishing at 1PM with our two limits, all around 16 inches in size except the one 20 inch carry over. Great day on the water !
