Finally some decent weather for a trip to Roosevelt for excellent trout fishing and if your lucky enough and hold your lips just right a kok or two. Easy limits of trout, actually fished Fri and Sat, pulling flies, apexes and wee-tads. Shorten the leader down to 12 inches makes a big difference in enticing the bites. Once again the wifes special lure did the trick for the kokes. If you head down to Roosevelt take the time for some excellent breakfast at Corner Cafe in Creston, great cook and friendly locals.

Hey onerka007, Nice bonus fish to add to the rainbow limit! I'm contemplating getting set up for planer boards. Did you use yours on this trip? And or when do you use them? Thanks for the report and pics. Andy

New to Trout fishing, starting to slam them. How do you get Kokes? Where is a good place on the river for them? What do you use? I mostly fish from shore up by Kettle.

afk - Fish the surface 5/8 to 1/4 oz weights depending on how far you go back, yellow bird in line planers or off line boards . If you want the kokes you gotta fish mid channel to the old river breaks running in and out off the shelfs, ton's of rbt heavy in the shallow water if you need to fill your limit but you'll get 'em in deep water too. If there out there feeding on the plankton so are the koke's just gotta fight through them and hope to get lucky. Even if you don't get a kok the rbt limits are worth the trip. But dang those kokes are unreal, catching and feasting on! Just a point about the fishery, no need to keep the wild rbt when there's a bounty of hatchery/net pen release rbt to fill your limits. I seen a huge rbt hen caught today and kept and while that's one's choice and congrat's to him my personal choice is no need with all the great tasting and fun catching hatchery/net pen trout out there.

that pic gotta be photoshop!!! Ha Ha. Biggest kokes I ever seen. If they fight as hard as the ones here on the West side, that had to have been a blast!!

I take alot of people out just to experience the fishery and let all of them reel in the fish, the one kok was 3.7 and his first kok ever. It's a great fishery!!

Great report and nice kokanee. Someday I'll figure out how to catch them intentionally, rather than incidentally. ;-)

I've got some vacation time in mid April and want to venture over there with my boat, will it be good fishing then too?

Depends on the drawdown, keep an eye on the forecast. Check the NOAA for upper Columbia site (not sure of link address) or google Lake Roosevelt elevations. The fishing hopefully will still be good for trout depending again on magnitude of drawdown.
