We headed out for Pateros early this last Friday to check some steelhead off the mouth of the Methow river. I had not been up to my normal target ground in about a month but usually this time of year it really heats up. we started down by the rocks just below the mouth of the Methow and fished for about an hour with out a bite. we were throwing different shades of maxi jigs tipped with coon shrimp under a float. I had marinated some shrimp in my normal graybills sand shrimp and steelhead guide scent they didn't want anything to do with it. we bounced around to a couple little spots close by without success. I made a change in colors based on passed notes. we went to orange jig heads with either pink or black body's on 2 rods and all black on the other. then I took some dark purple shrimp and dowsed them with graybills garlic mixed with the steelhead formula. this was game on. for the next hour we landed 8 nice fish and 6 were keepers and we were limited and on the trailer by 10:00. We thought it would be fun to keep fishing so we headed to lake Chelan afterwards and did a little kokanee fishing for the rest of the day. this was successful also. we picked up 11 nice kokanee ranging 12 to 16 inches. I'm really looking forward to more kokanee fishing the next coup[le weeks. as for the steelhead they should stay great fishing up here for about 2 more weeks and then they will head up the little rivers to do there thing.
