We started fishing Saurday. Quite a few people out. We brought in a couple of 16" rainbows, then I locked into a nice one. 21" to be exact. Fought about like the salmon I was catching in the ocean. Dad did a great job netting him. After him, I hooked another nice 19"er. We ended the day with 5 good trout in the boat, I let a couple go on the side of the boat before they could be netted. I brought in only one small 14" walleye. I was charting fish on the bottom, but I was having trouble connecting with them. I was using a white walleye delight with a bottom bouncer for walleye, which was killing the walleye just weeks ago at banks lake. After not catching fish, we moved to upper water for the trout. We were both trolling pink wedding rings with good success. I had a large dodger with green UV on one side, the wedding ring had a large hook. All was hooked up to a downrigger and dragged at 20ft with worm and garlic corn.
The next day I snagged a tree and lost my dodger and wedding ring. The only other pink wedding ring I had was a kokanee killer. I had a lot of hits, but only brought in a couple smaller 14-16" ers. I think the hooks were too small to keep the bigger fish on. Almost every time I popped the lure off the downrigger while having a hit the second day, it was gone. It was disappointing, but I was shaping my netting skills while netting for my dad who was catching a couple rainbows ~18".
All in all, walleye fishing was not good, but the quality rainbows were biting and were a lot of fun. I just have caught so many rainbows this year that I was preferring catching more walleye.
Thanks for reading.
