Things have finally settled down some and we decided to take a week off and spend at our place in Seven Bays. It almost worked, we got 4 days instead of a week. ;-)

I went up Tuesday so I could get annual service done on both motors, which was a good plan as it rained quite hard all afternoon. Service done and ready for the water Wednesday so moved on to refreshing leaders on the leaded line rigs and trimming worn sections off the mono rigs.

My wife couldn't get time off until Thursday and planned to arrive Wednesday evening, so my 8mo old yellow lab, Ginger, and I went fishing just before noon Wednesday.

Since I had all afternoon, I decided to do something different. Instead of my normal setup, I pulled a pair of 65-series Rip'n Minnows (one in black pearl and the other in perch) on leaded line out 150'. Fishing bait free, I could pick and choose what went in the cooler. I wasn't disappointed, and in about 2hrs I had a limit in the cooler including one nice 17 1/2 inch carryover. Trolling speed was 2.5 - 2.8mph.

The sky started to clear and the sun peaked through the clouds early afternoon. The bighorn sheep were roaming the hills above me as I trolled along. At one point they came right down to the bank as I played a feisty 15" 'bow to the net. Life is good. :-)

Back to the launch and haul out. Put the boat away, and since the sun was now shining, I cut the grass one last time before winter then filleted my catch. Took Ginger out and let her chase a tennis ball for about half an hour then inside for dinner and some solitaire while waiting for my wife to arrive. Great way to spend the day.

Glad to see you got to "mellow" out. Time spent slowing down is good. Watching the goats, catching fish and time spent alone with your pooch ; all good for the soul. May get up there this weekend, will give a shout to see if you are around.

Hewesfisher; that was a banner day on the water! Sometimes fishing solo provides another facet to the experience; I really enjoy that myself. In fact I usually get up and get on the water while my wife hangs out in the RV and wakes up. By 9 she's ready to go and I've had several hours of solo fishing. A bit clumsy netting sometimes, but I get through it!

Alan you are sooo right. It was a nice day too, even had the "door" rolled up! Won't be there this weekend, have commitments near the home front. I'll probably still be running the smoker!

SnoKing this was my first ever solo outing, not that launching/recovering is an issue, but always the "what if" in the back of my mind. I don't usually where my PFD on board, but did on this outing. Not that Ginger could have maneuvered to boat to rescue me anyway. LOL. Look forward to your reports next week!!

A PFD worn when fishing solo can mean the difference of getting to do it again!! Thanks for the report.

So true Andy, but as I told my wife in jest, my puppy sure wouldn't know how to maneuver the boat to pick me up. For that matter, she'd probably follow me in! :-o

Glad you enjoy the reports TB #1. Unless I can sneak away for a mid-week trip, it will probably be mid-December before we get back on a weekend. :-(

I always enjoy your reports and glad to hear that you have time to start fishing again. We just got set up at the rv park on the Colorado River, we have had strong winds but hope they die down in the next couple days so we can target stipers
