Interesting day today. Got up to the expected rain this morning. Met up with Ron and Scott and loaded boat in the rain, then drove to Fort Spokane in the rain. Launched the boat in the rain; did I say it was raining? Sure glad for the top on Ron's boat (we all have tops). Set up with the usual Kekeda flies, plugs and a combination of tackle on five rods. Two leaded at three colors, one down rigger at 18' and one at 12' plus a top line outfit with two colors leaded line top loaded.
Well....we trolled 2/3rds of the way to Seven Bays without a hit!! How could this be?????? Not many fish on the sonar either. Ron says lets go down river below Seven Bays and give it a whirl; couldn't be any worse. We stopped mid lake and started to put gear out and bam Scot's downrigger pole goes off before he can even hook it on the clip. We net that fish and get poles out and boom have a double. Then a tripple. They were hitting everything we had in but really liked the black and orange flies trolled @ 2.5 mph. Oh almost forgot not raining....yahoo. (we're spoiled here in Eastern Washington at Lake Roosevelt) Finished our limit of fifteen in an an hour or less, even with a major tangle... Rain started again as Ron reeled in the last fish.
Wind was calm as we finished so we drifted in the middle of the lake, enjoyed our lunch in the peace and serenity of this beautiful lake. Top up, heat on warm and dry...man do I love the top! Life is good, great friends, great fishing, bald eagles, golden eagles, God is good!
Tight lines everybody, stay safe on the cold water - Alan
