Left Spokane Velley at 8:15 to pickup friends in Airway Heights. Freezing fog and very icy roads up on the West Plains, but not too bad once we got out of town and headed for Davenport. I decided to launch at Fort Spokane, although I really would have preferred to head farther down the lake. We had lines in the water around 10:00, heading toward the mouth of the Spokane. We had hits almost immediately, but couldn't keep them on the hooks. We were pulling various flies, hoochies and Rapalas on leaded lines, downriggers and side planers. We hooked and lost 6 fish, while boating 1 or 2. As the day progressed, we trolled the points and bays between the Spokane Arm and Seven Bays, occasionally hooking a fish, between 5 and 25 feet deep. By afternoon it was snowing hard, and pink Kekeda files were the magic lure. We kept 6 nice Rainbows, though none were the big carry-overs we love to catch. At least 7 seemingly solid hookups were lost, which is unusual and baffling. Oh well, we'll keep trying.

Hi Craiger - For what it's worth I found I had to speed up a little to get them to stick. Also found some dull hooks....seems I hooked too many without checking.

Hi Downriggeral, I was with Craiger on this trip. After watching the others miss fish and finally missing one myself, I sharpened my hooks before resetting my line on the downrigger. Blam fish hit, grabbed rod and no stick. Frustrating to say the least. Chalk it up to being one of those kinda days. But had a great time on the water with Craiger and the gang on the Pandemonium.

I have found days when the fish would bump bang around with the fly but not get it. I started stripping line back to them then picking up the pole out of the holder and playing the line back and forth with the rod until I finally got them to commit. Caught all of the fish for two limits one day doing that between the two of us. Just teased them into it. Guess that's why they call it fishing; seems to keep us coming back for more.........yahoo fish on!!
