Left Spokane Velley at 8:15 to pickup friends in Airway Heights. Freezing fog and very icy roads up on the West Plains, but not too bad once we got out of town and headed for Davenport. I decided to launch at Fort Spokane, although I really would have preferred to head farther down the lake. We had lines in the water around 10:00, heading toward the mouth of the Spokane. We had hits almost immediately, but couldn't keep them on the hooks. We were pulling various flies, hoochies and Rapalas on leaded lines, downriggers and side planers. We hooked and lost 6 fish, while boating 1 or 2. As the day progressed, we trolled the points and bays between the Spokane Arm and Seven Bays, occasionally hooking a fish, between 5 and 25 feet deep. By afternoon it was snowing hard, and pink Kekeda files were the magic lure. We kept 6 nice Rainbows, though none were the big carry-overs we love to catch. At least 7 seemingly solid hookups were lost, which is unusual and baffling. Oh well, we'll keep trying.
