What a difference a day makes. Got all excited about finally looking for some walleye based on a gentleman's reports .....

In the water at Ft Spokane at sunup, trolled out to the confluence - not a bump. Ran up to Split Rock and picked up one Rainbow on an Orange Keda fly and an Abe and Al flasher/dodger. A couple of more passes of nothing and then started looking for walleye. Headed for the Spokane and ran up the river just below Porcupine - to areas where I have always caught walleyes. Go figure, nothing. I was marking fish at 100' just off the bottom - couldn't get them to look at anything. For that matter, I was marking fish at the confluence on sidescan and downscan to confirm my transducers. Everything had lockjaw regardless of what I put out. They were stacked up like cord wood.

The water level is muddy, way down (1269') and scheduled to drop even further to 1255' by the end of March. Everybody I talked with had the same issues - was beginning to think it was just me. The last three months have been great and I generally don't fish in the winter (until now with the new boat) - now I guess I'll just wait until the water comes back up in May. Until then, the pike and salmon are waiting in Coeur d'Alene or maybe head over to Potholes and look for walleye there. Anything with lips is fun to fish.

Still a fun day, didn't have to put up the canvas or turn on the heater and just enjoyed the day. One rainbow is not worth keeping so back it went to enjoy the water.

Sorry to hear you had a poor day catching, but you nailed it about being a nice day to be on the water. Sure wish I was instead of working. :-)
