My cousin and I decided it was time to try the trout fishing on Lake Roosevelt for the first time. Why we had never gone there before I'll never know. What a great day of fishing it was! With the 4hr drive we didn't get the boat in the water and fishing until 7:45 at Spring Canyon. Despite the late start, we came home with 1 fish short of our limit but only by choice. Brought home 9 fish, the smallest was 15 1/2" and the 2 biggest fish measuring exactly 20". My cousin unfortunately lost the biggest fish of the day that I think would have been in the 3-4lb range. Many fish in the 10-14" range were released, and we lost more fish at the boat than I care to remember. Trolling a 2 blade flash lite in front of a Rapala with 1oz. of lead 100-150ft behind the boat along with dodders and hoochies tipped with a worm on the downriggers 45ft. behind the boat 20-35ft down did the trick, with the hoochies getting the most fish. It was by far the best average size of keeper fish either of use have ever brought home. With this supposedly being the end of the best time of year for the trout fishing on the lake it goes without saying that we cant wait to come back in the fall/winter and next spring!
