I spent the weekend fishing guests at Brewster,WA for sockeye and Chinook salmon. All I can say is we weren't fishing, we were catching. Since July 1st we have landed 104 sockeye and 13 Chinook salmon. Half of these Chinook have been keepers.
Sockeye seem to be located all over the Brewster pool. I have been trolling at 1.3 mph using a 4oz cannon ball releasing 25-55' of line. I prefer this method over down riggers. I seem to loose less fish this way. Plus my guests love holding the pole. As usual pink seems to be a good color to use in either a spinner rig or a hoochie rig. Good shrimp is a must have. These sockeye are beautiful right now and are running larger than last year. Most folks seem to be loosing half of the fish they hook up on. I have decrease my loss rate to 20% by just tightening the drag and putting extra pressure on the fish.
Chinooks have been a little harder to come by, but have been landing 1-3 on sockeye gear every day. Super baits are producing strikes as usual but not near as productive as sockeye.
I have lots of openings after July18th. Feel free to call me to reserve a date. I would love to show you a great time on the river.
