Boy the new year started off bad for fishing. Went out twice this month, once near Daisy, another at Bissel and both times my buddy and I got skunked for trout. Sat night however we talked ourselves into trying for some Burbot. I had only seen one in my life last year and we caught it trying to fish for Walleye. After researching them I definitely wanted to catch more. We got down to Colville Flats around 6:30pm and threw a hook with a worm out. The first few hrs we had not even got a bite. Fearing another skunked trip we dared not quit early. Finally at around 8:30 the bite started. Myles reeled in a good 26" and threw it on the stringer. 5 min later he reeled in a small 16" but we still kept it. I had 3 bites within 10 min but never hooked one. Was disappointed in that but I was definitely grateful to get some action. The bite literally only lasted 30 min. After that it was completely dead. By 10 pm we decided to call it quits. The next morning I watched a few YouTube clips and filleted my first Burbot. It's definitely an interesting fish. Can't wait to taste it cause I hear they're the best freshwater white meat fish around. Excited for our next trip!

The burbot bite can be super subtle. Not sure of your bait choices, but you can't go wrong with raw crawdads or any fresh fish parts.

Wouldn't rate it as best, but it is in the top ten or so. Might try jigging a spoon. Krocodiles or Little Cleos or Kamloops work great, with or without bait. Night time is the best time by far, but they do move a bit shallower sometimes at night. High country is right about fish parts. I like perch chunks the best on 1/2 oz jigs, jigged rapidly a foot or two up after hitting the bottom, and they are quite cannibalistic as well.

Yeah I'll be taking the guts from the ones I did catch and be using it for bait next time. I did notice a lot of fish parts lying around the beach that I assume people use for bait. Whether or not that's legal I have no idea. Lol. I'll have to look that up. The Burbot seem to bite at almost any piece of meat you throw at them talking to other fisherman around the area. It seems like most Walleye fishing tactics apply to the Burbot. I'll definitely be trying different tactics for sure.
