Made the journey from The Dalles to fish with YJ Guide Service out of Porcupine. This was a first time Burbot trip for me. Even though it was pouring down rain when we launched in the morning, I have to give this trip a 5 rating. Raining but very calm and not terribly cold. We were the only ones at the ramp that day.
I'm not going to give up all his secrets but after a short run in a nice cozy jet boat we tried a couple spots before getting on them and then jigged up 2 limits in less than 2 hours from leaving the launch.
The rain turned to just drizzle but still a flat calm lake. We went on down and trolled a Slow Death Hook and crawler for Walleye but only managed a couple of those.
By the time we got back to the ramp, around noon, the rain had let up and our trucks were still the only ones there.
If you have never fished for these and want to I highly recommend YJ Guide Service. Very informative and fun to fish with.
I also had spent most of the week exploring the area between Grand Coulee Dam and Porcupine, and what a spectacular area. I fished from the bank for trout a few times this week. Fort Spokane area was alright but my favorite was down by the Hawk Creek Campground. I did catch a few there but just a great place to relax.
Oh yea, I had some of that Burbot sauteed in some Garlic Butter last night........gonna have to get some more!
