Wow, what a day. I gave it a five because the weather was so awesome it just capped off a really great day. I feel that just relaxing on a boat at Lake Roosevelt is almost as enjoyable as catching its fishes.
We started the morning off with a bang! First line goes off 60 seconds after it was set. John put it back out and had his Koke limit after only fishing for 5 minutes. Two minutes later we land our first bow. I thought we were going to have an "easy" day, but three more passes turned up nothing. At this point we decided to do a lot of exploring so we set out to check out many different areas of the lower river and see what the seas might yield.
Upon arriving to a new area I instantly marked a few fish. It didn't take to long till we were rewarded with another large chrome koke. I love watching these fish leap out of the water in search for freedom. when I fish for these shallow kokes I employ may different tactics. Not only do I have all my bases covered, but my guests also learn new ways of fishing that they can later utilize on their own vessels. We caught fish yesterday flat lining, downrigging, on planner boards, and on leaded lines. As they say, there is more that one way to skin a cat.
Well we ended up boating our Koke limit and 6 bows to boot. Kokes measured (not guessed) 16-21" These fish are trophies this year. Don't let the year go by without giving this lake a try. Better yet give me a call and let me do all the work and allow you to have a relaxing day on Lake Roosevelt catching some marvelous fishes.
Tip of the week!!! Don't be afraid to fish deeper on calm sunny days even if you see zero marks on the sonar. Most of my fishing this time of year is done at 2-15', but yesterday someof our fish were taken a bit deeper. I hope you enjoy my post and find some of my tidbits to be helpful.
I will be at the Big Horn Show in Spokane at the NWFR booth as a guide sponsor. Please stop by and say hello.
