Wow, what a day.

I had a great crew from Seattle fish with me yesterday and I spoiled them pretty good. Well ok, the fish spoiled us pretty good. We set our 5 rods and started our morning troll. Two on downriggers and the rest on planer boards. Every rod had a different presentation and dodger. Five minutes into our troll the first rod went off. I gave it 30 seconds before I throttled down my motor. Five minutes before I had explained to my guests how this will sometimes trigger a second bite and result in a double. Sure enough, we just got ourselves a double. I love starting my mornings off this way. Just as I was about to land the first fish, rod number three went down. Triple!!!! Suddenly my heart started to beat a little faster. I netted fish number one and as quickly as I could I shook the fish out of the net in preparation for fish number two. Fish number two reached the back of the boat and was netted successfully. I flopped this fish out of the net now looking to land our triple. Then it happened. My guests were marveling at the two big beautiful shiny kokanee flopping on the floor when rod number four and five exploded out of the clips. I couldn't' believe it. We just hooked up on all five rods. Number three hit the floor followed my four and five. We did it. Landed my first cinco. It took a bit to sort out all the rods and get hooks out. What a sight. 5 monster kokes flopping about the floor of my vessel. Definitely the highlight of my season. A few passes later we landed our 8th koke and then started fishing for bows. Darn kokes kept following us around and we had to release 4 more as we were targeting rainbows. This was yesterday.........

........and this if from today.
Although not as epic as yesterday, today was pretty good too. We managed to land our 8 kokes by 9am. It was really nice to be fishing areas where not another boat was in sight. Again we had to release another 5 kokes while we were searching for our rainbows. Its so much fun watching these fish slam my ultra light rods. I love yelling out "WE'RE ON, WE'RE ON!!! Fish again all 18-20.25" I am fishing the same as I have been in my early reports.

Talked to a couple of other boats and it seems that many are struggling to connect with fish. For some it takes some time to develop the "formula". Any tackle considered "kokanee" tackle is catching fish right now. It's the presentation that is important.

Tidbit for the day. Downriggers fishing between 10 and 16 feet with 50' setbacks. I think 100' on the DR is silly.
