The weatherman said "go fish", so I did.

I wanted to get my wife and wee one out on the boat today, but figured I had a better shot at doing so if we left Spokane sometime after noon. She gives me this funny look when I suggest we wake up at 4 in the morning. She just doesn't seem to see the importance of watching a sunrise with a fishing pole in hand.

We left Spokane at 1:00 and made our way to Keller Ferry. I was afraid we missed the party. It looked like a boat show was on the road to Spokane. First a Lund, then a Weldcraft, followed by a Hewescraft, Spectrum, another Hewes, and a slew of others. We managed to get launched and have our first pole in the water by 3:00. Five minutes later, Kapow!!!

My wife landed the first koke like a pro. Next we hit a rainbow followed by 2 more kokes. The next fish I almost mistook for kokanee because it was so silvery, but definitely a bow. One more koke and we could head home. Our wee one is 18 mo. old and enjoys looking at everything on the boat. Hooks, knifes, gel scents, knifes, dyed corn, more hooks. Yup, my boat is not child proofed, and so I was looking forward to our last Koke so we could rap up our troll. Had two more take downs that came unbuttoned, but soon after hit a double just as we popped out of a bay. Released the smaller of the two and called it a day with 4 kokes and two bows. Looked at the watch and saw that we only had fished for 1:45. Sweet, we'll even get home at a decent hour. I should sleep in more often.

Kokanee measured 18-20" while the rainbow are a bit smaller. I talked to several more anglers that again struggled to find fish. I am finding these fish spread out all over the river and find it best to avoid areas that have a lot of boat traffic. Lure selection still doesn't seem to be too important for me. THese fish seem to be getting more agressive with the warmer water. I found 50 deg. water today. Heated up 7 degrees in just a couple of days.

Todays tidbit: Toss the snubber. I feel that a ultra light action rod and a good reel with a smooth drag eliminates the need for a snubber. I also feel that the snubber can kill the action of a dodger and fly. Just my opinion.
