We had another fantastic day on the Columbia River out of Portland today. I had 3 great customers and we managed to pick up 4 chrome spring chinook and we ended our day with a boat limit. We are still picking up most our fish trolling downstream with flashers and herring, but today I ran a blackjack superbait stuffed with my tuna concoction as part of the mix, and it produced one of our keepers.
The biggest key to this fishery is to make sure you are trolling on the bottom. I can't emphasis enough that if you are not tapping bottom you are not fishing.
The Columbia will remain open below Bonneville Dam through Saturday the 9th. We have some space available over the next few days if anyone wants to get in on this fishery. After the lower Columbia closes I will be switching over to fishing the Willamette, before following the fish upriver to the John Day Dam area the last week of April- May 6th. I have some great dates still open for John Day, and this is a unique fishery in that we offer combination Salmon and Sturgeon trips with the chance at getting keeper sturgeon.
