This is actually two reports:
Friday: Launched out of Porcupine with Glenn and Jim in Glenn"s Lund we fished up and down the Arm for a total catch of about 60 eyes. All were caught on jigs red/black head with pumpkin/green pumpkin colored grubs and worms working the best. We caught 7 females between 4 & 8 lbs, all released, and kept 32 eaters between 16 and 21 inches. I was lucky enough to catch the two biggest 6 & 8 lb females. We caught them from 8 FOW to 30 FOW; back eddies off of the main current were key to our success. We also caught a couple of smallies shallow as we pitched jigs towards the bank. Water temp was 52 and the spawn appears to be in full swing.
Sunday: I took Glenn out in my Tracker and we fished the same places as on Friday; the water dropped about 2-3 feet from Friday which means going upriver is getting very sporty as we had a couple of places where the water was only about 5' deep. If you don't know the river and don't own a jet, you better take it slow or else it could get expensive quick. Glenn and I caught about 50 eyes and kept 22 that were between 16 & 21 inches to eat. The big fish of the day was an 11 lb female caught by Glenn and my biggest was 7 3/4 female that appeared to be partially spawned out. The same colors that worked Friday worked Sunday; 1/2 oz and 5/8 oz jigs are a must in the current if you want to maintain contact with the bottom. For a while Glenn thought we were bass fishing as he caught at least 15 smallies up to about 4 lbs. I only caught 5. If you throw a grub or worm any where near shore you have a good chance at catching some quality smallies right now, I mean we weren't even trying and we nailed a bunch. Same depth and same water temps as Friday.
