Report will span several days from 26-28 May.

Having never been to Roosevelt and considering the immense size, I read many of the previous reports and PM'd a few board users for more detailed info.

The first morning, I met up guide Dave Grove from Captain D's Guide Service. Very knowledgeable, skilled and willing to share a wealth of information on this stretch of water. Spent the morning hitting a few spots and learning the different tactics used here. Hooked into a few MONSTA Kokes with my largest being 21" and just at 4 pounds. Just absolute marvels to look at when they come out of the water!

The following day, I rigged up my boat early and put into practice what Dave had shared and combined it with experience from the west side of the state. Limited very early with two more MONSTAs!

Last day, conditions had changed greatly and could only hook into one and get him into the boat, but still a 5 Star experience in my book. This was more of my error as I stayed in a few places too long and did not change my gear enough.

My top five recommendations: 1. Highly recommend utilizing Dave's services if you have never been there. 2. The Koke tactics and techniques are very different on both sides of the state (speed, depth, lure size, set back, water clarity, water levels and behavior, etc, etc). 3. Research appropriate tackle and colors prior to arriving as there are limited options locally to buy specific types of gear. 4. Spend a few minutes with the WDFW rule guide. There was a very nice woman conducting a ramp check and as I asked around, I noted that many were unaware of the two unclipped limit on Kokes. 5. Make the effort to go catch a couple of these beautiful fish as it was well worth the effort and definitely a treat!

I learned a lot and truly an experience that I will savor for a lifetime. I can't wait to get back!

I think I saw you on Saturday when you were loading your boat, we were right behind you. That's a beautiful boat you have. Glad to hear you had a great fishing trip, but also to know Saturday was slower than previous days. I didn't see many nets coming out while watching other boats. We started down river at Spring Canyon but eventually moved upriver to escape the wind and found better luck there in one of the bays. Thanks for posting.
