Big thanks to Captain Dave, rseas and all the other members that posted about these beautiful kokanee! I couldn't take it anymore. Drove out last Friday night and camped at Spring Canyon. Got a little sleep and on the water running up to Swawilla by 6am. At first it was a planter trout show and my buddy was catching them all. One had to go into the box after it hit the deck hard, 4 others were released like I knew what I was doing. Around 9 my surface rod starts dancing and a nice 17" inch bow comes to the boat. Fish was a lot of fun to fight. About 10ish my rod at 40' starts dancing and I get it out of the clip, reel down and feel something heavy. In comes a nice 18" Koke, what a beautiful fish, also a lot of fun to fight on my normal kokanee gear. Relieved to have one in the boat I put my line back down. Not ten minutes later a 2nd kokanee rips the line out of the clip, at first it reminded me of being hung up, man was my heart pounding with this fish and when I saw it. Just a beautiful thing, I love kokanee and had a trophy kokanee on the line. When it slid into the net I was one happy camper! A 21" inch 3.5-4lb kokanee. God bless this lake, I want to be back already.
I was fishing a pink and clear hootchie, nickel Colorado blade baited with fire corn and pink maggot. We put my gear on my buddy's rod after I had my two but no takers for a few hours and we called it a day. Thanks again, truly a great experience!
