Headed out solo from Porcupine Bay at 0430 (old people thirty or bad decision thirty as my daughters say) looking for some weed beds. Started off at the bed on the left side of the first narrows as you head upriver from Porky. Picked up a half a dozen, mostly dinks, kept two nice 17 inch eyes. I was throwing a jig up into the weed bed and ripping it back to the boat. Once that slowed I headed upriver to another weed bed I like and caught another six and lost 3 or 4 others. All six were quality fish with one being over 25 inches and right at 5 1/4 lbs. I released that one and lost another about the same size as I was reaching for my net. As the sun rose higher the bite on ripping a jig through the weeds died so I went up upriver past the second narrows above buoy 5 and trolled a smile blade on one rod and a brass Colorado blade on my second rod; both had a slow death hook. I kept my speed at about 1 mph and tried to come down the middle of the channel. I trolled up 23 eyes and only kept 4 that were at least 16 inches. Total kept for the day was 9, enough for two nice meals. I got off the water by 1430 right as the wind kicked up and made some pretty white caps on Porky.
