We launched the boat at Two Rivers and there was barely a ripple on the water at 11 AM. A nice 45 minute (I only have a 30 HP Evinrude on my 28 foot pontoon) jaunt we made it just short of Haystack rock on the other side of Lincoln. What a magnificent piece of geology! Made for some dropped jaws and good conversation while we trolled, ineffectively, for a couple of hours in hopes of a kokanee. I've never caught one, still, on the Columbia.
So! We switched to the spinning reels and casted for smallmouth. 6 fish in about 80 minutes, but the biggest was only about 9 inches. They all went back to grow up. We were throwing worms at the rocks and had bites on every cast, but they were all small and we were using bigger hooks than the fish that wanted to play.
When we rounded the corner to go back north, the waves got really bumpy. REALLY BUMPY… 14 feet of my 28 foot pontoon boat came back soaked, but we slowed her down and made it safe.
Good luck to all!
