Combined report for our week long outing 10/24 - 10/28.

Fished Monday afternoon, mid-morning to early afternoon Tuesday, Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.

Took Wednesday off as it rained all day and I needed to perform annuals on both engines anyway.

Fishing, and catching, was about as good as one could expect.

Monday, in less than ideal conditions, we put 6 in the cooler in less than 2hrs despite challenges controlling the boat due to wind.

Tuesday was the best weather day of the week, mostly sunny, calm, and lots of action. Took our good sweet time putting limits in the cooler, it was too nice to be anywhere else except on the water. It was also a very good catching day with me starting the day with a 22" native Redband off a perch pattern Rip'n Minnow which I released after a photo up (didn't even take it out of the net).

Wednesday rained all day and I wrenched on the outboards.

Thursday was an afternoon only trip, in the rain, and very fast limits. We were off the water in less than 2hrs.

Friday was a morning only trip, with limits in less than 2 hours.

We iced at least 2 carryovers every day, some pushing 20".

Hot gear for the week was a Kekeda fly in black/orange and with my perennial favorite perch Kekeda a close second. Plugs were almost silent and only accounted for a couple fish all week long. Action was so hot with the Kekeda's I ended up stowing the mono rigs Tuesday and never even put them in the water Thursday.

Flies tipped with a chunk of crawler and fished off leaded line with 6lb 50' fluorocarbon leader out a total of 155'. When we long lined mono, plugs were sent 195' behind the boat. Downriggers are off the boat for the rest of the season, just not needed. Speed was at or slightly above 3mph.

Surface temps ranged from 59.8° - 61.4° with the coolest temp noticed Friday morning. We fished from the confluence to below Sterling Point. Fish checker at ramp when we returned Tuesday said most carryovers were coming from way up in the Spokane Arm and also near Hunters. He also said anglers are averaging one carryover in five and that we were the only boat checked when we came off the water. We did quite well in downstream areas.

As promised, I spent some time working a 2.8" OG1 in flourescent green body and pink tail Friday morning, in addition to a pair of Rip'n Minnows. I simply replaced a fly on one of our leaded line rigs and ran the OG1 out the same distance as a fly. With 4 rigs out, only one was catching, and it was the other leaded line with the battle worn orange/black Kekeda, nonetheless, I continued on for an hour before switching back to a Kekeda and stowed the mono. Tried speeds from 1.8mph to 2.8mph, but the trout were not interested in lures. I video to download so hope to post later. :-)

I should note two things, (1) if trolling with bait, remember, all trout caught count toward your limit whether kept or released (kokanee are exempted in Roosevelt and don't count against your trout limit), and (2) we have a residence in Seven Bays, were not camping, and only transported a 2-person possession limit home. ;-)

Good morning Hewesfisher, great way to start the day, the morning positive fishing report on Rosie by one of "The Masters of the lake".
Looks like all systems normal for this time of the year on the water. Great report, no mention of whether you iced any Kokes. Not many mentions in Roosevelt reports of Kokanee action. Looking forward to their return. On the water soon, thanks, Mtngrizz.

Wow! What a great way to spend a week. You can't beat 77 degrees on a boat in late October catching limits of big trout. I'm excited to see the carryovers starting to show up, those are such a treat. As always, thank you for giving the flies a workout on the water. Glad they were able to get the job done for you. Thanks for sharing the report. I'm sure you got the itch going for quite a few of us to get out there for ourselves! Dave

Nice to be out for a week of fishing regardless of weather. It will be nice when the kokanee start to school up and the fishing gets hot. Brother Ron and I are hopefully going out towards end of week. Have been remodeling my basement and sure need a break.. Fishing the best waters in the state should be the right ticket. Just love the taste of those RBT from there.Tight lines !

Thanks for another great report. The wife and I took the trailer to Keller on Thursday and we had a good trip and got our rainbows and one really nice Koke, will post a report. I finally put the dodgers away and took my speed up to 2.5 to 3 MPH with very positive results. My best producer was the Orange Kekeda which probably went 4 to 1 over my perch one. Thanks for the tip on the speed. Report to follow.

It was a great time away for sure. I noticed an interesting pattern with the flies, the orange/black was hit almost immediately, so much so I considered switching the other rig to the same. About the time I'd think that, the perch fly would get hit and they'd both fish well from then on. That said, the RBTs had a clear preference for black/orange while we were there. Could be different now.

I have a full smoker to unload and vacuum seal this morning so I best get to it. Remember this, if you think you're trolling too fast, speed up. This was the advice given me by a former guide at Roosevelt. It works. :-)
