Decided to try and go for some Burbot fishing Friday night for the first time this year. Last year was my first time ever trying to target these fish. Was slow for most of the winter trips and I had more success during the early spring months. Friday night seemed to produce similar results as last year with only 1 Burbot in about 5 hours. A little disappointing but it was kind of expected. The girlfriend and I had a decent fire to keep us warm and plenty of beer to keep us somewhat entertained so it was a successful trip in that regard.

We called it quits around 8PM when we started getting low on firewood. We started fishing around 2 that afternoon and landed the one fish at about 5:30 so we gave it a solid shot. The neatest part of the night was when I gutted the fish before heading out. This dang fish had 3 crawdad, a little 6" baby burbot, and decided to eat my bait as well! Was a hungry fish for sure!

I've been wanting to make a trip up to Sullivan Lake to try ice fishing for the Burbot up there. I've been asking around at work about locations to fish and tips to use for fishing up there but I haven't made the decision to drive up there yet. Anyone have any input?

Even though the fishing was slow I'm still dedicated to catching these delicious tasting fish. I plan on heading out again this Friday to try at it again. Wish me luck!

If shore fishing for Burbot, I usually start just before it gets dark. The first fish gets caught about 1 hour or later after sunset. Good luck.

There is no ice on Sullivan, So don't waste your time driving up here. Bead lake may have ice though.

I should not say there is no ice but the ice that is there has only been there a few days and only about 2-3 inches thick not really safe and there is a lot of soft spots you cannot see with the new snow.

Kfedka: In my experience that proves so true. Usually don't catch my first till about an hour after dark. It sounds like I was in the wrong location according to some other local fisherman. I needed to be deeper in the mouth of the Colville to be in the hot-spot. However, due to the cold, there is a bunch of ice frozen over at the mouth so need to wait for that to melt.

Then mcgregor for the info. I'll have to look up Bead Lake sometime.
