Went over to visit my brother in Rearden and planned a last minute trip to Spring Canyon to chase some Kokanee. We left his house at 5:00 am and it was 14 degrees with about a 10mph steady wind.......Was starting to think this wasn't a good idea. We got within 30mins of the campground and went over a railroad crossing and his boat trailer bounced in the air. The boat came down so hard it smashed the trailer fender into the tire and started smoking. We pulled over in the dark and had to in bolt the fender and take it off to continue this death march.
Finally made it to the launch and it was a balmy 17 degrees and still a steady breeze. Surprised to see the launch was ok and not totally iced over. Launched the boat and it wouldn't start.....probably from getting body slammed by the railroad crossing. As my brother tried to fire up his trusty old kicker motor the pull cord pulled all the way out and got stuck! LOL.....now were getting cold messing with this disaster. Kicker motor fixed and running good were finally fishing by 7:30. Probably shouldn't have gone with the luck we had on the way there but went out anyway. Started at the camp ground and trolled towards Keller. We managed to pick up a 17inch fat rainbow at 18ft on the wire. Caught one more identical rainbow about 45mins later same depth.
After three hours our buddy heater tank went out and we decided we better head in before anything worse happened. We lost one more on the way back in and escaped with our lives. We didn't get any Kokes but were able to manage to bring home two nice trout for dinner!
