My friend fishdawg and I planned a kokanee trip to Roosevelt for the weekend. We met at the Grand Coulee Center Lodge Motel. What a great setup; even had a space reserved for the pickup and boat all in one piece! The room was great with two separate sleeping areas divided by the bathroom. Clean and comfy just what the doctor ordered!! Flows Café (now Patsies opened at 5:30 AM for us fishermen; yahoo coffee and great breakfast; now for the fishing.

Launched at Spring Canyon and headed out to our first location we wanted to fish. Hit the starter on the T8 and only a click with a puff of smoke from under the cowl....grrr not good. The T* with power start and electric tilt does not have a built in rope starter so we pulled the boat out and went back to the motel to remove the plastic cover covering up the flywheel. Went to the hardware store and got a pull cord and started over for the day. Ran up river and started fishing with four rigs out.

Bryan's was the first to go off on the side planer pulling three colors of lead core. What a kokanee, didn't weigh but it was around five pounds, a whopper for sure! Mean while the other lead core on the planer hits bottom and gets hung up. Now the fun begins....pick up the downriggers, reel in the planer board and run down the hung up line. Got it back, no tackle lost. Back to fishing. I noticed the action did not look correct on one of the three rods out the back of the boat so Bryan checked...oh no. Murphy came to visit again!! This was the biggest snarl of line and tackle I have ever seen: a bushel basket full it seemed. Good thing we carry lots of spare rods! Back to fishing; that koke was the only fish for the day. No love at all for my offerings.

Day two Sunday; another great breakfast now for those fish. headed to Spring Canyon and boats were leaving....what? Found out the launch was blocked in by ice that had blown in. launched at Crescent bay and proceeded up river to fish. Bryan got a nice trout as soon as the first rod was in. Mine never got touched Sunday either. Oh well that's fishing.

Thanks FishDawg for another great time together; now for those pesky fish....next time!!

ridgeratt - didn't dodge or see any ice while running in the main lake
bornagainbozo - The kokanee is just under 23 inches and weighs around 5# - No long arm in the pic!
SideBurns - That was the pic of the Spring Canyon launce. We launched at Crescent bay down by the dam.

Thanks for another great joint venture. We certainly had our challenges and the fish were less cooperative for us than we'd have liked. Still another fishing story woven together and time well spent. We'll give 'em hell next round!!

Good luck and tight lines in the meantime, Amigo!

The Experiment Must Continue

Hey Alan, Sounds like a tough go of it. Glad to see Brian kept the skunk out of the boat. That sure is a nice Koke.

Glad to hear you improvised and saved the fishing trip. What a beautiful kokanee! Spring Canyon launch looks like Seven Bays did a month ago, definitely a new experience fishing Roosevelt this year.

This is getting us very excited for our relocation to Spokane. Loved fishing Chelan a few summers ago, and we're anxious to get out there agin in early Spring. Also wanting to fish Roosevelt!!

Dead starter. Must have run the last of the life out of it last trip when the motor flooded. Murphy, hate that guy or whatever it/he is! Got a new starter so I'm on the mend. Now for those pesky Kokanee! !
