I went fishing at the Ayer boat basin from 5-22 through 5-26. The first 2 days were incredible for channel catfish and a few small mouth bass. I was using raw, bloody beef steak for catfish and they were snatching it up with gusto. I was catching 12+ pounders on average. The weather was slightly cloudy/sunny and the water was pretty warm. I was casting out and just let it sit on the bottom and was watching my line. I had no bobber or bell so I had to be attentive but it wasn't hard tell when I hooked one. The bass were harder to catch and flighty. I was using semi-deep diving rapala lures. Not much to say about them. The basin is a place for catfish. It didn't matter what time of day I fished. I caught catfish at all hours with raw steak. Best if you have a boat so you can access the entire basin. If you have a big boat you can go out on the snake and fish the inlets for bass which are more abundant out there than in the basin itself. Make sure you have warm clothing plus food and water because this is in the middle of nowhere and you won't have it if you don't bring it with you. There is no cell phone reception and depending on what day it is, there might not be any people show up, if any, till the weekend.
