Well took my retired hunting buddy fishing for salmon for the first time. We hit the river right around 8 this morning along with 200 of my closest friends!!! Most of the locals were headed back said it was slow at best.
We drove down from Spokane so were floatin"
Still a ton of boats at the confluence so were in. We got out on the water and I got him rigged up showed him how to get the downriggers set while I was driving. he's putzing around in the back and the next thing I hear is a scream.
I'M Fishing so kick the boat out of gear and get ready to watch. He's screaming get the net. So I do as I'm told but all the while I'm sort of mentioning that this fish doesn't seem ready to me. I guess the 20 foot leaps out of the water are my clue. But I'm still at the ready.
So the fish procedes to give quite the aerial show behind the boat. This fish is going from one side of the boat to the other airborne. He is still sure the fish is ready even thought is 30 feet behind the boat.
Well if your horsing a fall chinook thats my guess was mid 20's the enevitable is going to happen. Snap and now he's standing busted off.
We fished the rest of the day and we had one other good hit that didn't stick and I did pick up one jack
The river was a shade off in color had a mild coffee color but it was a perect day other than that.
