We had a fantastic day of steelhead fishing yesterday out of Heller Bar on the Snake River. Water temperatures have finally dropped to the lower 50's and the fishing is now on fire. We landed 11 steelhead yesterday for 4 rods fishing and one keeper fall chinook. The Snake River in the Heller Bar area is an absolute steelhead highway, and the number of fish moving through this area is astonishing. With that said the number of keepers available depends on the day. Yesterday was a wild fish bonanza for us. We only managed 3 keeper steelhead out of 11, but our action was fantastic. In fact this was the best day of fishing we have had yet, and with the cooler temperatures the fishing over the next two month should be great!
Our main technique in this area is side drifting. Yesterday most of our success came from pink yarn balls, and pegged pink beads. With the water in the mid 50's we find we do better on just yarn, but as the water Temps drop into the lower 40's bait such as cured eggs and coon shrimp will become our goto.
If anyone is interested in fishing with us I have quite a few mid November openings. Please give me a call at 208-861-0654 and make sure to check out my website at www.kylejonessportfishing.com.
